The Sugar Shortage

A story-based symbolic programming and computational thinking web app, developed for inventXYZ as a Computational Biology Curriculum Developer.

You've arrived at a sugar beet farm. As the lead investigative scientist, you must keep the operation running and figure out why so many plants are dying!

  • By relating algorithms and computation to everyday problem solving, students learn the basics of programming in a fun, flexible, and exploratory game.
  • Five levels teach fundamentals from loops and variables to conditional statements and lists.
  • The game saves students' progress with local storage and provides an encrypted code to interface with a database for easy grading. Developed on SvelteKit.
  • Through smart feedback messaging, students are given both the freedom to explore and the structure to succeed.
